Who are those women out front? Women of Note has two talented performers conducting our music. They strut their stuff week to week during rehearsals and as a focal point at our performances and contests. We are sure you will agree that Women of Note has a great dynamic duo out front. Read more about them below.

Maria Gabriella

Maria has been singing for as long as she can remember! She used to twirl and pretend she was Maria from the Sound of Music. Not much has changed! 😁

In 1995 Maria was singing in three choirs, the McGill Choral Society, its chamber choir, and Cantare, a local choir. She faced a choice—sing with the Montreal Jubilation choir or join the Montreal Chapter of Harmony,Inc. In joining Harmony, Inc. her life took the trajectory it's on today. She sang with Montreal until 2000, when she married and moved to the U.S. She won her first quartet championship that year, as well, with After Hours. She became a charter member of New England Voices in Harmony in 2001 and sang with them for a few years, then joined the SAI Coastline Show Chorus, reaching a high of top four on the International stage. She also sang with the SAI Regional championship quartet, All the Rage!

In 2008 she found her permanent home with Women of Note. From within the chorus she founded another quartet that went on to win the Harmony, Inc. International Championship in 2011, Foreign Exchange.

Currently, Maria is thrilled to be one of the two Associate Directors of Women of Note with her pal and baritone, Nanda. Both Maria and Nanda also sing with Intonations, the current Area 2 champions and 5th place International Medalists.

She still twirls, but not as often since it makes her dizzy and she knows better. But she will dance in front of the chorus!

Nanda Landers

Nanda has been a proud member of Women of Note since 2006 and was introduced to Barbershop by a friend who invited her to a Learn How to Sing program the chorus was having. She’s been hooked on Harmony ever since! Her journey continued by singing with the quartet, Foreign Exchange, with Maria, who became quartet Champions of Harmony, Incorporated in 2011. She currently sings in the quartet, Intonations, also with Maria, the current Area 2 champions and 5th place International Medalists.

Nanda loves developing her hands as director and is grateful for the opportunity the chorus has given her to do exactly that. She really enjoys sharing this position with Maria. As co-directors, with the support of the Music and Education Teams, they still get to sing and perform with the chorus while also directing.
